Solar Decathlon Europe 2014: RhOME for denCity

The Italian team of Università Roma Tre in Versailles with RhOME for denCity: the solar-powered house of the future.

Università degli Studi Roma Tre with the project RhOME for denCity is the only Italian to participate in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2014.

The sustainable housing prototype has been designed in collaboration with several companies, one of these is Solbian Energie Alternative which took care of the photovoltaic roof of the house.

The structure is made ​​up of 98 SP50L flexible panels (1109x292X1, 5 mm) which are extremely lightweight (0.8 kg, six times less than a traditional panel of the same power) and very efficient.
The modules, that cover the roof and one wall of the house, can easily slide up to the loggia, becoming an innovative shading system.

The micro perforated dark tissue on which the panels are mounted facilitates the dissipation of heat and their lightness allows a very quick installation.

As required by the Solar Decathlon Rules, 5 kw make the house totally self-sufficient in terms of energy.
The project presented in Versailles was intended for large scale applications, as a model of sustainable construction for the house of the future, particularly in an urban environment, where nowadays it is more difficult to fully exploit renewable energy resources.
